Terms

Terms of Use

These terms cover use of the Font Blend site and its tools. Fonts in the catalog keep their original open-source licenses: SIL OFL 1.1 or Apache 2.0. Font Blend links to sources but does not redistribute font binaries. Generated code exports are yours to use without attribution.

Intellectual Property

Font Blend's source code, design, and curated content (pairings, palettes, gradients, glossary entries, book lists, tool listings) are original work. Reference products such as Fontpair and Typewolf were used only for feature research during development. We do not copy their data, designs, or text. The Font Blend name and logo are project trademarks.

Each font in the catalog remains the intellectual property of its designer or foundry. The license recorded on each font's detail page is the source of truth for what you may do with that font.

Mirroring or republishing the Font Blend site — the static build or its curated content — on another domain is a copyright and trademark violation and is expressly prohibited. If you believe someone has copied Font Blend, please report it at fontblend.com/contact-us or email [email protected], and we will pursue a takedown with the mirror's hosting provider.

OFL Versus Apache 2.0

Most fonts in the Font Blend catalog use the SIL Open Font License 1.1. A few use Apache 2.0. Both licenses permit commercial use, modification, and redistribution. The main difference is how they handle trademarked names.

SIL OFL 1.1
The OFL is designed specifically for fonts. It allows you to use, modify, and redistribute the font. You cannot sell the font file by itself. Trademarked names in the font (the font family's name, the foundry name) cannot be used to produce new works without permission. You must include the license file when redistributing. These restrictions do not affect how you use the font in your designs.
Apache 2.0
Apache 2.0 is a general software license adapted for fonts. It permits use, modification, and redistribution with fewer restrictions than OFL. It explicitly allows use of trademarked names in derivative works. You must include the license and copyright notice when redistributing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to credit the font designer?
The OFL requires you to include the license file and the font copyright notice when you redistribute the font or a modified version. It does not require you to credit the designer in your product UI, your website, or your printed materials. The Apache license requires a copyright notice but no specific attribution format.
Can I modify these fonts?
Yes. Both OFL and Apache 2.0 permit modification. If you modify the font and redistribute it, you must include the license file and not remove the original copyright notices. You cannot call a modified version by the original family name without permission from the rights holder.
Can I use these fonts in an app I sell?
Yes. Both licenses permit commercial use. You can bundle OFL or Apache fonts in a paid app without a separate font license. The OFL prohibits selling the font file itself, but using it as part of an app or website is permitted.
What fonts on Font Blend use which license?
Each font's detail page shows its license. Most Google Fonts use OFL 1.1. A small number use Apache 2.0. The license listed on the font's Google Fonts page is the authoritative source.
