How to Read the Comparison
The point of putting pairings side by side is to stop judging fonts from memory. Every card in the comparison renders the same sample text, so the only variables are the two typefaces, their weights, and the mood of the combination. Look first at the heading: does it stay legible at the weight shown, and does it carry the personality your brief names? Then read the body line at the size a paragraph would actually use, not in the large preview.
Weight and hierarchy matter as much as the faces themselves. A pairing that looks exciting at display size can fall apart as body text, and one that looks plain at 40px can be exactly right for a documentation page. Add the candidate pairings you need from the catalog, keep the list to two or three at a time, and remove the losers as you go so the surviving option is obvious.

A classic editorial pairing: high-contrast Playfair Display headings over a neutral Inter body. The contrast between the ornate serif and the technical sans establishes clear hierarchy while remaining highly readable.

Geometric Montserrat headlines paired with Merriweather body text, a confident modern editorial combination. The geometric sans brings energy to titles; the slab-serif body sustains long-form reading.

Source Serif 4 headings over Inter body, a quiet, professional pairing that scales from documentation to long-form articles. Both fonts have optical-size axes, so headings retain their crispness at any scale.
